Where it comes from
Cold-pressed from the peel of Citrus bergamia. Most of the world’s supply comes from Calabria in southern Italy.
How perfumers use it
The soul of eau de cologne and chypre, and the most widely used citrus in fine fragrance.
Did you know? It is also the flavour of Earl Grey tea.
Safety & regulation
Natural bergamot contains bergapten, which can cause skin reactions in sunlight. Perfumers use bergapten-free (FCF) grades.
For education only. Raw materials should be diluted for smelling and never applied neat to skin. Always follow the supplier’s safety data sheet and the current IFRA Standards.
