Where it comes from
Steam-distilled from flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia, notably in Provence and Bulgaria. Lavandin is a hardier, more camphorous hybrid.
How perfumers use it
The backbone of the fougère family, and used in colognes, ambers and modern unisex perfumes.
Did you know? Guerlain’s Jicky (1889), one of the first modern perfumes, was built around lavender and vanillin.
