Where it comes from
First synthesised in 1893; found naturally in violet flowers, raspberries and many fruits (orris owes its smell to the related irones).
How perfumers use it
The basis of violet accords and powdery florals; support iris and woody notes.
Did you know? Some people cannot smell beta-ionone at all: a well-studied genetic difference.
For education only. Raw materials should be diluted for smelling and never applied neat to skin. Always follow the supplier’s safety data sheet and the current IFRA Standards.
